Olamide – “Eru” Stream & Download
Olamide is one of the greatest, but here he was, seemingly playing catch-up and dealing with a more radical force in the form of two rappers who got inspired by him and reworked their music into a wild strain of Gen Z drug. They had no rules and everybody loved them for it. In September 2019, legendary Nigerian rapper, Olamide released ‘Pawon,’ his third single of the year. Produced by Cracker Mallo, the song tied into the street-hop Zanku sound that had been championed by viral rappers, Naira Marley and Zlatan. While both of those rappers love and respect Olamide, their dominance between June 2018 and December 2019 was undeniable.
According to the singer, he started music at the age of 15 when he was a producer for a very long time and the started singing again. Omah Lay’s style of music is decribed as a fusion of Burna Boy meeting Wizkid in one voice. One can call his style Afro-Fusion. Singles like Hello Brother and Do Not Disturb which was released in the year 2019 started his emergence into the music scene but got everybody’s attention with ”You” and ”Bad Influence” which was off his debut EP Get Layd
Olamide has released his studio album, “Carpe Diem”. The music project which dropped in the early hours of Thursday, October 8, 2020, is the rapper’s 10th solo album and a follow-up to 999 which was released earlier this year. The 12-track album features guest verses from Peruzzi, Omah Lay, Bella Shmurda, Fireboy DML, Bad Boy Timz and long time collaborator Phyno. The 31-year-old rapper earlier disclosed that “Carpe Diem” is a reflection of his mind as well as the c urrent sound brewing underground in Nigeria. We get a glimpse of the state of his mind on the Bella Schmurda assisted track “Triumphant” on which Olamide disclosed how the death of his parents affected him and “he was losing his mind”.
Olamide added that the album is also “a combination of a lot of traditional elements and also a sound from way back in Nigeria called galala, which has a little bit of reggae/dancehall. It’s also a fusion of something we call Celestial, which is when you are playing secular music in church. It’s like taking pop to the church.”
Award-winning Nigerian singer and rapper, Olamide returns as he drops off his first official single for the year. The new song titled “Eru” is produced by P. Prime and comes following the release of his 2020 EP “999” which dropped back in February this year.
