The Nigerian young and multi-talent music art, Divine Ikubor was born 1 May, 2000. He is known professionally as Rema, is a Nigerian singer and rapper. In 2019, he signed a record deal with Jonzing World, a subsidiary of Mavin Records. He rose to prominence with the release of the song “Iron Man”, which appeared on Barack Obama’s 2019 summer playlist. He has continued to trend since started droping his hits back to back in Nigeria and beyound.
Talking about the family background of Divine Ikubor, he was born into a Christian family in Benin City, Edo State. Rema grew up singing and rapping while in secondary school. He attained his primary and secondary school education in Edo State.
In 2018, Rema posted a viral freestyle to D’Prince’s track “Gucci Gang”. The post caught the attention of D’Prince who flew him to Lagos to offer a record deal. Rema signed a record deal with D’Prince’s. Jonzing World, a subsidiary of Mavin Records in 2019. He released his eponymous debut EP Rema in 2019. It peaked at number 1 on Apple Music Nigeria
Nigerian singer Rema has collaborated with Jamaican producer Russian on a new single, “Beamer (Bad Boys).” In an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music’s Beats 1, Rema said of collaborating, “Every single artist, you know, has their roles to play in the army of the new generation. Me, I’m the bad commando.”
Over the past year, the 20-year-old artist has continued to exemplify his well-deserved rise, delivering on his idiosyncratic sound that spans everything from Bollywood to trap, Afrobeat, and pop. Last year he showcased his attention-commanding direction with his breakout EPs, Rema, Rema Freestyle, and Bad Commando.
